The artist Daniel Meuli, a native of the Swiss Engadine Valley, creates perfectly unique, analogue photographs of unadulterated honesty. Constructed to his own designs, his enormous cameras obscura capture fleeting moments. The direct method of imprinting light on photo paper produces images reduced to their very essence. At one and the same time, they are also negatives and positives.

We trust that this catalogue will illustrate the depth and complexity of Meuli’s work. By contrasting dreamlike snowy landscapes against the harsh reality of snow that has been robbed of its pristine white purity, his unparalleled technique explores what may well be described as the political properties of snow.

It is our very great pleasure to honour Daniel Meuli in the first solo exhibition of his works at Chesa Julierhof in St. Moritz. We take this opportunity to give sincere thanks to Annelies and Herbert Wuest, and to Pascal Vaucher, for their generous support, and – of course – to the artist for his enormous commitment. You are invited to embark on a journey through Meuli’s Landscapes, via Aftermath, Snowballs and Engadine Ski Marathon, to his most recent series, Stizis illa naiv – Traces in the Snow. We are confident that you, too, will feel inspired by these works.
