Galerie Andres Thalmann is thrilled to present Ian Davenport – Resonance the fourth solo show of the internationally acclaimed British artist at the gallery and first in its Paris space. A selection of vibrant new works reveals Davenport’s rigorous exploration of colour relationships, painting process and movement.

His signature technique of pouring paint onto a tilted surface with a syringe plays with time and chance, allowing carefully chosen chromatic sequences to flow and pool at the bottom of the painting. Driven by a fascination for the materiality and the fluidity of paint, Davenport meticulously composes vibrant symphonies of colour.

In addition to the paintings, the exhibition includes works on paper with a rhythmic splattering technique and firework bursts. This provides a counterbalance to the measured and controlled rhythm of his poured line paintings.

Born in 1966, the Turner Prize nominee Ian Davenport studied at Goldsmith’s College of Art in London. The artist has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and site-specific installations worldwide, including Tate, Liverpool (2000), the Venice Biennale (2017) and a retrospective at Dallas Contemporary (2018).

His work is held in important international public collections, such as the British Museum, Arts Council Collection and the Tate in London; the Centre Pompidou in Paris; FNAC Fonds National d’art contemporain, France; Dallas Museum of Art in Texas; and the MOMA in New York.
