Eruptive color placements and elastic, oscillating brushstrokes lend these powerful yet sensitive, discreet pictorial plant bodies an intense presence.
Vibrations des plantes (Vibrations of Plants) presents new works by Swiss artist Barbara Ellmerer, whose practice is thoroughly devoted to the inner life of plants. The exhibition features works that emerge from the artist’s seismographic perceptions: her brushwork transforms vibrations, flows, and condensations into layers of vibrating color.
On view are works in which symbiosis and cooperation are celebrated as driving forces of life. The artist interprets the biologist Lynn Margulis’s findings in her own way, through large-scale paintings. Plants conceived as equal partners determine the chromatic dynamics, unfolding in delicate networks and softly tinted layers that allow the paintings to move and breathe.
Eruptive color placements and elastic, oscillating brushstrokes lend these powerful yet sensitive, discreet pictorial bodies an intense presence. Ellmerer invites viewers to immerse themselves in these vibrating pictorial fields and to experience painting as a process of rupture and transformation.
