Adams’ work is characterised by a subtle depth, perhaps only possible because of the trust between fellow stars, one in front of the camera, the other behind it.
Taylor Swift embraces her guitar; Mick Jagger roars energetically and even Her Majesty the Queen smiles from ear to ear as she demurely sits next to her pair of wellies – they may all be personalities that couldn‘t be more different, yet they have all been captured in portraits by Bryan Adams’ camera.
Since the 1990s, Bryan Adams – aside from his successes as a singer and songwriter – has made an outstanding parallel career as a photographer, winning several awards for his camera work. Since the very beginning, Adams has focused on the art of the portrait, dedicating a variety of series to this challenging genre.
In the photographic exhibition Bryan Adams – EXPOSED, the artist shares with us portraits of many celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, fashion and the arts. Some are in elegant black-and-white; others – such as from his latest series In Colour – captivate with their bright colours. Adams’ work is characterised by a subtle depth, perhaps only possible because of the trust between fellow stars, one in front of the camera, the other behind it. The resulting portraits are very intimate and enjoyable studies, each with plenty to say about the nature of both celebrity and humanity.
Born in Kingston, Ontario, in 1959, Canadian Bryan Adams is not only a singer / songwriter but a photographer. His works has been shown in exhibitions around the world, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (Canada), the Somerset House in London (UK), the Centro Cultural de Cascais (Portugal), the NRW Forum in Düsseldorf (Germany) and the War Memorial Museum in Seoul (South Korea) – to name but a few.
