The works in the exhibition have a connection to Paris in many ways.
The Swiss artist Michel Comte was born in 1954 and can look back on a long and successful career:
Comte works as a photographer for major magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair and has collaborated with luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gianfranco Ferre, BMW, Ferrari, Hennessy, Hermes, Lancôme, Pomellato, Jaguar and Mercedes Benz. In 2008, he produced the film "The Girl from Nagasaki" together with Ayako Yoshida and opened the exhibition "Neoclassic" in 2016, which included artworks in various genres, from sculptures to installations and photographs.
His work has been shown in a number of museums and exhibitions, including the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf (Germany), the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich (Switzerland) and the Triennale di Milano (Italy). The Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich (Germany) dedicated an exhibition to Comte's photographic work for Ferrari.
To mark Comte's 70th birthday this year, Galerie Andres Thalmann is proud to organize an exhibition centring on works from the 1990s when he was working as a fashion photographer in Paris – fashion capital of the world.
The works in the exhibition have a connection to Paris in many ways. Some, for example, focus on the city’s personalities he photographed, such as Carla Bruni, Catherine Deneuve or Yves Saint Laurent. Others reflect more the locales where the photographs were taken – iconic Parisian sites such as the Ritz. Among the images to be seen are a photograph of Mickey Rourke smoking in the shower in his suite at the hotel, and scenes from a photoshoot for Chanel with the decade’s supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campell.
Comte's work will not only transport you into the world of Parisian high fashion but enchant you with its beauty.
