Sudarshan Shetty reimagines the familiar, creating works that linger between memory and dream.

Sudarshan Shetty (born 1961, Mumbai) is a prominent Indian contemporary artist, known for his diverse artistic practice that includes painting, sculpture, video, sound, and performance. Initially trained as a painter at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, Shetty shifted towards sculpture and installation, developing a conceptual approach to his works. His pieces often explore themes of transience, the sacred, and the mundane, using mixed media to blur the boundaries between objects, memories, and dreams. Notable for their poetic and enigmatic qualities, his works invite viewers to reflect on the intersection of materiality and imagination.

Shetty's art has been widely exhibited in major international venues, including the Tate Modern in London, the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan, and the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh. He gained attention for the public sculpture Home and Away, commissioned in 1999 for the Hakata Reverain Art Project in Japan. His works are held in prominent collections such as the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in India and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.

Residing in Mumbai, Shetty continues to be a significant figure in contemporary art, engaging deeply with the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of South Asia while fostering a dialogue between the local and the global in his practice.
